Alcobaça is one of the most historic cities in Portugal, it was once inhabited by the Romans, later conquered by the Moors who gave it the current name of Alcobaça.

In 1178, the construction of the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça began, which was the first work of Gothic architecture in our country. In 1989 it was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and in 2007 it was elected one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal.
